Grading guide

how we grade.

Every piece on Second Tag gets a grade from one to five stars before it goes on sale. The grade tells you the condition at a glance; the photos and notes in each listing show you the detail. Here's exactly what each grade means and how we decide it.

The process

how every piece is checked.

The same six steps, in the same order, for every item, from a £28 pair of kids' boots to a £340 coat.

The golden rule

A piece is graded by its weakest point. One mark on an otherwise perfect jacket means it can't be Excellent, because the grade should always tell you the worst thing you'll find.

    Inspection checklist

    what we look at.

Every point on this list is checked on every piece. Anything we find goes into the listing and the photos.

      The name

      why “second tag”.

Every piece we sell has already had one owner. With us, it gets its second time round.

We don’t add our own tags, cut out labels or alter anything. What you buy is the original piece, with its original brand labels, care labels and tags exactly as they came to us, so you can check them for yourself.

      Our promise

      trust is the product.

Buying quality brands second-hand means trusting a stranger with £100 or more. So every piece we sell gets the same three things.

      Checked

We check labels, stitching, hardware and every seam before anything goes up. We don’t just say “authentic”; we show you the labels and tell you how we checked.

      Honestly described

Brand, item, size, condition and measurements, stated plainly. If there’s a mark on the cuff, we tell you which cuff and which photo it’s in.

      Photographed properly

Same cream backdrop, same soft daylight, same order every time: front, back, labels, details, any flaws, then measurements.

      How it works

from our rail to your door.

The same process for every piece, whether it’s a £28 pair of kids’ boots or a £340 coat.

      1. 1

        We find it

We source pre-owned pieces from high-quality brands that still have plenty of life in them.

      2. 2

        We check and grade it

Every piece is inspected inside and out, then given a grade from one to five stars.

      3. 3

        We photograph it

Front, back, labels, details, flaws and measurements, so you can judge it for yourself.

      4. 4

You buy it or make an offer

Pay the asking price, or send an offer and we’ll reply on the site.

      5. 5

        We pack it

Carefully folded and sent exactly as listed, with nothing added or altered.

      How we talk

      what we’re not.

      • Not a hype account. No “STEAL”, no “grail”, no rows of fire emojis. Just the facts about each piece.
      • Not snobby. We want to feel like the best assistant in a smart shop: welcoming, and happy to help whether you’re spending £30 or £300.
      • Not vague. Every listing follows the same format: Brand, item, size, condition.
      Brands

We stock a wide range of high-quality brands, from Nike and Hugo Boss to Gucci and lots more. These are the brands in stock right now; tap one to see every piece.

        Terms & privacy

        the small print.

Written in plain English. These terms explain how buying from Second Tag works, and the privacy policy explains what we do with your data. Last updated 22 October 2026.

        terms of service.

        1Who we are

This website is run by Second Tag (“we”, “us”), a UK reseller of pre-owned clothing from high-quality brands.

To get in touch, use on this site. You’ll need a free Tag Club account, so every message and reply is saved in one place.

        2Using this website

By using this website or buying from us, you agree to these terms. Please read them before you order. To buy or make an offer you’ll need a free Tag Club account (see section 3).

You must be 18 or over to buy from us or make an offer. You\u2019ll be asked to confirm this when you join the Tag Club.

Don’t misuse the site: no trying to access areas you’re not allowed into, no automated scraping, and no posting anything abusive or unlawful in offers or messages.

        3Tag Club accounts

You need a free Tag Club account to buy from us, make an offer or contact our staff. Browsing the shop doesn’t need an account. Keep your sign-in details private and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can ask us to close your account at any time.

        4Our items and grading

Everything we sell is pre-owned unless the listing says it’s Pristine (new with tags or unworn). Each piece is one of one.

Every item is graded on our five-star scale and described with its size, condition notes and photos. The photos and notes are part of the description, so any marks or wear we show or describe are part of what you’re buying. See the for what each grade means.

We sell pieces exactly as they came to us, with their original labels and tags. We don’t alter items or add our own tags.

Colours can look slightly different on different screens. Measurements are taken by hand and may be a centimetre or so out.

        5Prices and payment

All prices are in pounds sterling (£) and include VAT where it applies. Delivery costs are shown at checkout before you pay.

We take payment when you place your order, through Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.

If we list an item at an obviously wrong price, we’ll contact you before sending it and you can cancel for a full refund.

        6Making offers

Signed-in Tag Club members can offer less than the asking price on any item. An offer isn’t a contract: the item stays on sale to everyone until we accept an offer.

If we accept your offer, you can buy the item at that price. An accepted offer is held for you for 48 hours. After that the item may go back on sale.

You can withdraw a pending offer at any time. If you cancel an offer after we’ve accepted it, we’ll ask you for a reason, so we can release the item to other buyers.

Accepting one offer automatically declines other pending offers on the same item.

        7Orders and delivery

Your order is confirmed when we confirm it’s been accepted. We may cancel an order and refund you in full if an item has already sold elsewhere or we can’t confirm your payment.

We deliver within the UK. Delivery usually takes between 5 and 30 days, depending on the item.

Delivery costs between £2.50 and £4.00, depending on the size of the item, and is shown on every product and at checkout before you pay. Tops, accessories and kids\u2019 clothing are £2.50; bottoms, dresses and kids\u2019 shoes are £3.25; outerwear and footwear are £4.00. If you buy several items together, they come in one parcel and you pay one delivery charge, at the highest rate in your order.

The item is your responsibility once it’s delivered to you, or to someone you nominate.

        8Changing your mind

Because you’re buying online, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of the day you receive it.

        • Tell us you want to cancel through Contact us, and give us the reason you’re returning it.
        • Send the item back within 14 days of telling us, in the condition you received it, with any tags it came with.
        • We’ll refund you within 14 days of getting the item back, including the standard delivery cost you paid, to your original payment method.
        • You pay the cost of posting the item back to us.

        9If something’s wrong

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, items you buy from us must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. For pre-owned items, satisfactory quality takes into account the item’s age, price and the condition we described.

We can’t accept a claim for wear or marks we told you about in the listing or photos. But if an item arrives in worse condition than its grade and description, isn’t genuine, or isn’t what you ordered:

        • Within 30 days of delivery, you can reject it for a full refund.
        • After that, you can ask for a repair or, where that’s not possible, a price reduction or refund.

Contact us with photos and we’ll put it right. We’ll cover reasonable return postage for faulty or misdescribed items. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.

        10Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that’s a foreseeable result of that. We’re not responsible for loss that isn’t foreseeable, or for business losses: our items are for personal use.

We don’t limit our responsibility for anything we can’t legally limit, including death or injury caused by our negligence, or fraud.

        11Disputes and the law

If you’re unhappy, please contact us first and we’ll try to sort it out. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or in Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the one shown when you placed it.
